I made my first feature film when I was 15, and throughout high school, I made twenty-two short films. To pay for everything I needed, I worked under my mom, Tracy Kurschner, who runs her own small PR firm called Kurschner Communications, and most of the money that I’ve made in my life has come from the connections I made through her. With her and then on my own, I’ve shot more than 50 Corporate videos. After High School Graduation, I went to Los Angeles, where I studied film at Studio School, now called Hussian In-Studio.

       Located right in the heart of downtown LA, I gained immense practical knowledge that I still use to this day. Starting as a lowly PA, I made my way up the ladder, all the way from PA to Grip to AD to DP, DIT, Gaffer, you name it. Then the pandemic started, and I went back home to Minnesota, where I produced a live concert on a cliff called Paloma Live! The proceeds went to help the Equal Justice Initiative and People Serving People, two charities that help disadvantaged people.

     For the advertising I created for Paloma Live! I won two Telly Awards. Once the pandemic wound down, I took all the knowledge and skills I had accumulated and created my second feature, Grass Lake. Set in 1982, the film is shot on Super 8mm and the Red Gemini, and stars almost exclusively very young and bright new actors. During post-production, I made my foray into music videos, and although business has been creatively stimulating, I miss the professionalism and calmness of a corporate environment. I’ve also shot three short films for others, hired on as DP in Minneapolis and LA in that time. I can confidently say I can do whatever job you need, but I shine most strongly in positions of leadership, be it Editor, DP, Gaffer, Producer, or even Director.
